Whenever you are with family, friends or coworkers, board games are fun. They are intuitive too. Especially post confinement, playing these kind of games has become a huge trend, worldwide. To give you an idea of how much of an impact this trend has, 5M board games have been sold within July 2020 (cf. Amazon) with 200+ of them sold out! That’s crazy. If only, board gaming was just for kids…
Checklist 📯
I am gonna give you some of my best findings. Take it as a word of advice, it represents a lot of money to buy them all. So don’t just yet, otherwise, you’ll be broke ☠️
🏨 Monopoly deals. A lot of luck is needed to win this game constantly. You get the right card and you are able to do 3 families faster than anyone, then you WIN. A pretty short version of the actual monopoly but that one doesn’t need any table to play with. Enjoy it on a sofa or the beach 🏖
🎴 Monopoly. Classic but real fun. The big trend that surges
👨🏻🌾 Catan. Previously known as Settlers, is a multiplayer board game that gives you taste of Game of Thrones, version the age of stone 🤘🏻
🃏 SoCards. The best conversations start with one good question. Imagine what you could do with fifty-two. Think
🕵🏻♂️ Code names. Two teams compete by each having a "spymaster" give one-word clues that can point to multiple words on the board. Two versions exists, one using names and the other using pictures.
♥️Komojo. Komojo is a cool came that a startup based in the FAMILY developed. You should definitely check it out!
🧠 Cranium. Cool game to play between couples or friends, teams gather around to beat themselves to questions, sketch it, guess what it is, spell the word, all sort of things that can be somehow frustrating.
🎲 Asmodee. They are French and they build great games to enjoy a cool game night.
♟ Chess. Classic and no need to explain much about this one.
Trends of trends 🥁
With a trend booming like this one in less than 3 months, some just emerged around the same time & some are emerging slowly and slowly. We’re gonna go through some of the major trends that aid the switch to gaming as an experience. Read them through, give us a comment if you think we forgot some, even if we won’t care much 🥺
🔖 Post-its. Everybody remember that cool game where you write a name of a president or a star and you stick it at the forehead of the person on your right. You’ll have to guess the name as fast as you can before everyone does. I guess this game can be categorised as a drinking game. It became a macro trend a long time ago before hitting back to a micro trend for college grads 🍻
🎮 Video games. Obvious but not that obvious. Buying a Switch or a PS4 is now a cool thing to have, since staying at home is a macro trend. Think Mario Kart or Fifa, remotely.
🎰 Casinos. Yes, get lucky and win it all or get unlucky and loose it all. Vegas has been around since a decade now but new safe heavens emerge everyday. Think Monaco, HK or even Dubai.
Design thinking, agile, scrum. Ring a bell 🛎? Brainstorming tools between team mates are quite something now. They are interactive and fun and to be honest, they are a problem solving tool for most corporates. Startups love them but they already master it.
🏃🏻♂️ Escape games. Team buildings have been around since the dawn of ages but between family, friends or coworkers, trying to solve something to get out of a place is fun enough, especially with a theme.
👰🏻 Another kind of bachelorettes. Think drinking game + a couple of horny girls + a board game. Because you can’t go out much (Covid19 trend), playing dirt between girls (gossips) is a think now.
Extraordinary coffee shops. Not the Amsterdam ones, but close enough. Trippy as hell. Think cat coffee (where some 🐈 are running around while you take a ☕️ break).
Think board game plus a beer. Yes, play chess with your friends over a beer is possible. Technically, this is the part where you won’t buy them all but try them all, all at once 🤪
Now that you have all the cards in hand, play ahead and pick from the deck🃏
Good luck 😇
